Technical Director
About the Role
The Technical Director provides strategic technical oversight and assurance across Tecknuovo engagements within our key customer accounts, acting as a senior, customer facing technical leader. They ensure solutions we deliver are technically sound, consistent with Tecknuovo’s standards, and aligned to the customer’s long-term objectives, while also safeguarding Tecknuovo’s delivery quality, reputation, and commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Oversight and Assurance
Provide ongoing technical assurance across all programmes, reviewing architecture, delivery approach, and technical risk on a weekly basis.
Identify potential issues early and ensure appropriate mitigation plans are defined and owned.
Lead or contribute to technical design reviews and steer decision-making on complex or high-risk programmes.
Maintain a consistent, unified Live Service platform support approach across all customer engagements.
Ensure alignment to Tecknuovo technical standards across programmes, including effective sponsorship of Tecknuovo-shaped solutions by associate and permanent teams.
Deliver concise technical updates in governance or account review forums, covering assurance, risk, mitigation, and emerging opportunities.
Produce and maintain technical case studies that demonstrate delivery outcomes, assurance, and innovation across the account.
Account Development and Growth
Act as the senior technical partner to the Engagement and Account Leads, translating technical performance into customer confidence and account growth.
Identify and shape new opportunities such as technical enhancements, innovation pilots, or service expansion.
Support bid and proposal development with technical input, estimates, and delivery recommendations that are credible and deliverable.
Build strong relationships with senior customer stakeholders - including CIOs, Heads of Delivery, and Chief Architects - positioning Tecknuovo as a trusted and assured delivery partner.
Capability Development and Transition Planning
Lead assessments on when deep technical experts within programmes can safely roll off, including the design of dual-running transitions and assurance of capability continuity.
Contribute to the development and evolution of technical standards and best practices, ensuring they are applied consistently across engagements.
Support internal technical enablement by mentoring Delivery Managers and technical leads, strengthening technical maturity across the wider business.
Internal Technical Capability Leadership
Ensure internal teams are well-directed, appropriately deployed, and developing in line with live delivery needs and future account growth.
Advise the business on the internal technical and chargeable roles required over time, balancing client demand, delivery risk, scalability, and commercial efficiency.
Hold accountability for the leadership, effectiveness, and evolution of Tecknuovo’s internal technical teams, currently including DevOps engineers and DevOps apprentices.
Contribution to Bids and Sales
Provide strategic technical input and assurance to bids, ensuring proposals are robust, realistic, and aligned with Tecknuovo’s delivery capability and standards.
AI and Innovation Leadership
Conduct technical reviews for AI use cases, both internal and customer-facing, ensuring solutions are viable, ethical, and aligned with Tecknuovo’s standards.
Explore emerging technologies that can add measurable value to existing customer programmes.
Who You Are and How You’ll Make an Impact
You are an experienced technical leader with a background in delivering and assuring complex digital programmes within consultancy or large-scale transformation environments, ideally in central government or similarly regulated settings. Having progressed from hands-on technical roles into senior leadership, you bring both deep technical credibility and a practical understanding of delivery risk, live services, and multi-supplier environments.
You are calm, authoritative, and evidence-led, providing clear technical direction and assurance across multiple programmes and technology stacks. You identify risk early, act decisively to protect delivery and service continuity, and give senior stakeholders confidence through clear, concise governance and reporting. You are comfortable engaging CIOs, Chief Architects, and Heads of Delivery, translating technical performance into trust, credibility, and long-term partnerships.
You are commercially aware and growth-oriented, using insight and innovation to shape opportunities and strengthen account value. You work in close partnership with engagement and account teams, ensuring technical delivery, assurance, and client relationships move in step, while maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
